GURU SAMARPANAM

NãmaSmaran 2010

Kumbakonam Sri E K Srinivasa Bhagavathar born in 1930 is the third son of the revered couple, Elandhurai Sri E K Krishna Moorthy and Smt Mangalambal. He is indeed divinely blesses for even as a child of 14 he had started rendering Bhajans, thanks to his early induction into Bhajana Sampradayam under the able guidance and tutelage of his beloved father. In fact, his first Bhajan performance was in 1943 when he was 13, at Thirubuvanam sitting alongside his father and mentor.

Thereafter all his performances continued to be rendered with aplomb laced with his trademark adherence to the traditions set by Sri Sat guru Swamigal of Maruthanallur of early 18th century. Since 1957, he got closely associated with Srivanchiyam Ramachandra Bhagavathar with whom he performed at several State capital Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore and Hyderabad with a singular aim of spreading Bhakthi culture, the hallmark of course being the performance par excellence in the performance par excellence in the presence of none other than our honourable Head of State, Dr. S Radhakrishnan – the venue being Rashtrapathi Bhavan.

He had been conferred with the titles of ‘Bhagavatha Shironmani’ by Swami Haridoss Giri; ‘Bhagavatha Thilakam’ by Sri Jayahrishna Dikshitar; ‘Madhura Geeta’ by Sivananda Mutt and ‘Sankeerthana Kalanidhi’ by Poojyashri Ahibila Mutt Swamigal on the occasion of Naama Sankeerthana Uthsavam 2002 – organised under the aegis of Integrated Academy for performing Bhajans at Krishna Gana Sabha, Chennai. The year 2006 took him to North America and Canada where he gave Nama Sankeerthanam performances at more than 30 places during a stint of 3 months.

After a distinguished service in school for 39 long years, he took retirement and devoted himself to become an Asthana Bhagavathar at Govindapuram Paduranga Ashramam. He imparted Bhajan classes to women in and around Kumbakonam, training them to become adept in Sampradaya Bhajans which being his forte was close to his heart in the realm of classical arts.
