Sri Dakshinamoorthy

“Like father like son” may well be the apt description for Sri Dakshinamoorthy Bhagavathar for he is the son of the revered Sanskrit scholar and Carnatic Sangeeta Vidwan Brahmasri Guruswamy Sastrigal of Sattupathu village, Ambasamudram Town not far away from the banks of the famous Thamraparani River. His father who had toured extensively all over India giving religious discourses was also the Asthana Vidwan of Sri Sankara Narayana Bhagavathar (Kallidaikuruchi) who himself was the disciple of the well-known Sree Muthiah Bhagavathar (Arikesavanallur). It is a small wonder therefore that his son Sri Dakshinamoorthy Bhagavathar imbibed the taste and developed his inherent talents for Carnatic Sangeetham with ease through close association with his father.

Until 1994 when he was retired, Sri Dakshinamoorthy Bhagavathar was into the noble profession of a Gurunathar. Starting as a school teacher, he became a Headmaster in a middle school where he served for nearly 17 years. His interest in Sampradaya Hari Bhajans continued unabated since when he has been conducting Deepa Pradakshinams, Dolothsavams and Kalyanams all over India for over 25 years ow, Bhaktas at Mumbai (Matunga, Dombvli, Mulund, Kalyan, Ghatkopar and Chembur) who had witnessed is performance and heard him singing Carnatic classical music remember him even today with reverence and fondness.

By the grace of Almighty and by invitation of Bhajan lovers (in Jan/Feb 2005) he successfully conducted Radha Kalyanams in Abudhabi, Kuwait and Bhajans at private gathering of Bhaktas at Sharjah and Dubai. Sri Dakshinamoorthy Bhagavathar has been conferred with the title of ‘Nama Sankeertana Kalanidhi’ by Vishnupuram Grama Brahmana Samudaya Trust, Kanayakumari in 2007, and also ‘Vibhooshana Bhagavatha Siromani’ by Kanchi Kendra Society, Noida, UP in 2008.
