Septuagenarian, Sri S Pitchumani Bhagavthar, was born at Thiruvannamalai to Sri Sethurama Iyer and Smt. Sharadambal. In his early days as a student, he would frequent Thapovanam where he had the opportunity of interacting with Swami Haridoss Giri. His coming close to Swami Haridoss Giri and his style of worship through Bhajans was akin to a bee being naturally drawn to any nectar-filled flower. Sooner he completed his basic education, Sri Pitchumani Bhagavathar relocated to Chennai to spend more time with Swami Haridoss Giri and also nurture his interest in Bhajans.

He then became a regular member of the Gnanananda Nãmasankeerthan Mandali spreading Bhagavan Nãma throughout the country. While his most cherished memories are that of a supporting artist to his mentor Swami Haridoss Giri during his Katha Kalakshepams, he had never the less opportunities to associate with Bhagavathars of yester year which included Kudanthai Sri Balu Bhagavathar, Srivanchiyam Sri Ramachandra Bhagavathar, and Mayavaram Sri Krishnamurthy Bhagavathar. He now lends vocal support to Udaiyalur Sri Kalyanarama Bhagavathar, a name synonymous today with Sampradaya Bhajans.

He has been honoured by various organizations across India for his service in the field of Nãma Sankeerthan spanning over half a century! He has also been awarded with the titles of ‘Bhagavatha Shironmani’ by H Swami Haridoss Giri in 1970 and ‘Bhagavatha Choodamani’ in the year 1998.
